Yes disconnect IO0 from groung after FW download because any reset/power reconnect will put you back into load mode....... I would use 510 ohm or greater pulldown resistor [protect your pins]
I use
VCC[3.3] connected to
+LED connected to
Resistor1 [510] connected to This also connected to IO0
Resistor2[510] connected to
wire/switch to supply ground
-------------------------------------------------------- /----------> IO0
{vcc]---------+LED-----------Resistor1----------O-----------Resistor2------------O-switch-O------------Ground
Connect ground LED is BRIGHT ---- press reset sw[ you don't have]--- LED is HALF BRIGHT
You may have to try 2-3 Leds to get the effect or swap resistors -- I find this useful to see
what mode I'm in after reset....
