ESP8266 Community Forum

First time post. I bought a esp8266 off of amazon. Specifically, HiLetgo New Version NodeMCU LUA WiFi Internet ESP8266 Development Board. Link: http://www.amazon.com/HiLetgo-Version-N ... ge_o00_s00

When I plug it into my windows 7 machine via a micro-usb cord, the blue led flashes twice but that is it. It is not showing up in device manager for me to apply a driver to. I tried re-scanning for hardware changes but no luck. I also tried it on my windows 8 desktop and it did not show up there.

Is there another step I should be doing? I'm ordering another usb cord to see if that could be the problem. Any other thoughts?

- Wed Apr 13, 2016 9:53 pm #45453 I had the same problem with similar boards. Power it externally via VIN/GND pins.

- Wed May 04, 2016 4:16 am #46852 The board is using the CP2102. Did you install the driver for it? And, did you install the board manager for ESP8266 in your Arduino IDE for the compilation?
