#46073 I just googled "open source windows basic" and got several good hits.
Not sure if they will do what you want but they look promising :)

freebasic.net was one of then hits

#46075 Yes thanks, I'll go hunting if I need to, but no rush yet cos still got loads of bigger priorities to work through... and hopefully in the meantime someone may be able to recommend something they've used cos that might help me avoid a load of unnecessary wasted hassle.

#46090 I went through a similar search a few years ago and settled on QB64. I grew up with QuickBasic and then Visual Basic 1 - 6 (even VB-DOS), but lost touch with VB.net.

It's been a couple of years since I used QB64 so I don't know what direction it has taken since. I used it for a few simple command line utilities, and also to teach one of my daughters to program. For Linux users I can also recommend Gambas.
