This is more or less a historical thing combined with a pinth of myth, lack of a LED lighting standard and a lot of confusion created by the manufacturers of cheap LED lighbulbs.
It is true that in the past trailing edge dimmers were a better fit for LED lamps. Meanwhile, because LED retrofit lamps are more likely to be installed on existing standard dimmers used for incandescent or halogen lamps, more and more manufacturers started to design and test their LED lamps to be compatible with leading edge dimmers. And this is more like a "de facto" standard today.
If you are concerned about dimmability of your LED lamp with your dimmers, leading or trailing edge ones , always consult the manufacturer’s product datasheets or contact the manufacturer directly. The biggest problem these days with AC MAINS LED lighbulbs dimming is related with the fact that the market is flooded with cheap chinese LED products claiming to be full dimmable but they are not. They are using the old style technology (cheap) that is making them somehow compatible for trailing-edge dimming only. Or they just label them as "dimmable" but inside you will find a standard universal 85-240VAC constant current source! That makes them impossible to dim in a proper way!
I have already ordered a mix of EU 240VAC/50Hz LED lightbulbs, cheap, expensive, branded, unbranded, etc. Also received 2 days ago a US 110VAC/60Hz one + a US CFL claiming that is dimmable (thank you forlotto!) .
I will do full testing with all of them and will post the results here and on Youtube.
