#51191 For periodic wake up from deep sleep, a resistor (value depending on your pull-up on rst-pin) or schotky-diode between gpio16 and rst is recommended (no direct connection).
(Might also work with small cap 0.1uF, not tested yet)

At least the red power led should be removed to take advantage of deep sleep ...
the few flashes of the blue led during wake upare not relevant if wifi is used ...

yes I am talking about the ESP-01 and no, not everything you read on the internet is true.
You may succeed with a direct wire for the first flash but on consecutive flashes you will have a hard time to enter bootloader mode: hard to reset device - rst going low - if gpio holds it high.
Odd chance that gpio is the looser battling against a push-button to gnd; equal chances if rst is via rs232 line.
technically sound solution is diode/resistor/(cap).
