of course the esp8266 boardmanager package utilizes the espressif sdk...
but Arduino is in no way affiliated with either of the them.

False statement !
Look into https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino/tree ... ls/sdk/lib
You will see that many library binaries are coming directly from Espressif SDK.
