this is getting really confusing, has to be something very basic. I tried switching off encryption on the Sky hub and tried to connect just using ssid and........ nothing still not connecting, I copied the ssid direct from my laptop so I do know that's correct, I think my next port of call is sky to see if they can suggest anything. I'll keep you posted as to how that goes, thank you again for your interest

Unlikely but is it MAC address related?
Find what the MAC of your laptop is and set your esp MAC to that. Remember not to have the laptop connected at the same time.
