Can't power device with USB cable....but ext. power works

- Fri Apr 14, 2017 2:28 pm #64954 Not sure what happened but I can no long power my ESP 12E with the microUSB port anymore. I can apply 5 volts to the VIN and GND terminals and it works fine. Afterwards, I can even upload sketches with the same USB cable....just no power.

Anyone seen this type of behavior before?

One that is the most common is that cheap/crappy cable are not strong enough to support lot of current and have a lot of resistance, and therefore the 5V is then dropped near 4V at board.
Try to use a different cable ...
Which board are you using ? because there some board with voltage protect, maybe it has blowed up.
