supposed to be 9dbi gain, however im getting any better than an esp8266-12 With the on board attena. Im actually doing worse.
With the esp8266-12 i could connect around 500 feet away, with -07 it's about 250 feet.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

did you ever get this resolved?
I'm thinking to add range to my sonoff switches with external antenna.
I have tried to solder ext antenna to pcb but have not had any luck to get range updated.
mostly my experiences end up the board not to boot anymore when you cut the pcb antenna etc.
It seems that its tricky to get ext antenna to work so ideas and findings will be greatly appreciated here too
