When I run the code on my ESP8266 esp-01, the serial terminal in my Arduino IDE says: AP IP address: 192.168.4.1 -- that is the IP address retruned by Wifi.softAPIP(). However, if I enter that address in my browser, I get a timed out error and cannot connect. But, if I log onto my router and get the local IP address assigned by my router to the esp8266 and enter that in my browser, I get the "You are connected" message in my browser.

Note the local IP address that I get from my router is the IP address that is returned by WiFi.localIP() (when running the "Quick Start" code (found here --> http://arduino-esp8266.readthedocs.io/en/latest/esp8266wifi/readme.html#quick-start):

Is wifi.softAPIP() retuning the wrong value?

- Sun May 27, 2018 7:39 am #76104 The top example ix cresting an Access Point. The intent is for you to connect to that from your PC just like any other WiFi network. So before you type in that address, you need to connect to the "ESPap" WiFi network. Then that IP address will work fine.

I do have a follow up question, however. I have read that that "soft-AP + station" mode is the default configuration for wifi.softAP. When I flash WiFiAccessPoint/WiFiAccessPoint.ino to the Esp8266, is broadcasts its ssid and allows me to log on using the password that I have established, and it also connects to my home network as a station. However, although my home network is secured (and requires a password to connect) the Esp8266 connects without the ssid or password of my home network being entered!

How is that possible?

I previously connected the Esp8266 to my home network using the "quick start" code referenced above; however, I have since flashed the Esp8266 with other code -- bothe the WiFiAccessPoint.ino code and LED blink code -- yet when I run the WiFiAccessPoint.ino code (which does contains neither the ssid nor the password for my home network), the Esp8266 connects to my home network?

How is that possible?

Some things, like WiFi-mode (AP, STA or both) and credentials are stored in EEPROM and in flash memory and stay untouched when you reflash the ESP.

Assumption is the mother of all f*ckups. At least: that's what I'm assuming.
