Are you using a pull-up resistor between VCC and CH_PD?

No I'm not, I was not aware I needed one. All the post I see say to just connect it to vcc. That is what I did when I first connected it to upgrade the firmware, but now as I said above, the blue LED never stops flashing.
how big of a resister is needed between ch_pd and vcc?

It's not totally necessary as many get by with out one, but you could try a 10k pull-up resistor. If that doesn't work try to post us a basic wiring diagram.

Hi Were you able to recover the device.
I'm running into a similar issue where after upgrading from 0.9.2 to 0.9.5 the status led(blue) is ON constantly.
Any hints on what may be wrong.
